Morley's Final Catalogue: Sometimes not uncommon in sandy districts, but always very uncertain in appearance. One in an Ipswich garden (Ml), around which town it is of extreme rarity; nor does it occur anywhere on the clay of High Suffolk.
Recent Suffolk Status: A widespread species in the county with concentrations of records in the Brecks and Sandlings. Can be recorded in large numbers in the Brecks.
Life history: Single brooded in late spring/summer.
Identification: Similar to Elephant hawk, but smaller with yellowish markings.
Habitats: Wasteland, Gardens, open woodland, heathland, grassland, woodland rides.
