Morley's Final Catalogue: Correctly regarded by Bloomfield as 'rare' in 1890, when it was known from Bentley, Needham, Stowmarket, Tuddenham, Beccles and Lowestoft. Later have been observed merely a specimen at light in Ipswich on 23 June 1895 (Mly) and larvae at Burgh Castle (Norf. Nat. Soc. 1899, p.539).
Recent Suffolk status: Extinct as a breeding species. Only recent record was of a male at Purdis Farm, Ipswich on 01.08.2005 (N. Sherman), possibly a wanderer from the Kent populations.
Life history: Single-brooded in the summer.
Identification: Pale tussock flies earlier in the year and is a much paler moth.
Habitat: Heathland, moorland and coastal habitats in it's home range.
