Morley's Final Catalogue: Eggs and pupae 'tolerably plentiful' at Playford (Gr, Nat. viii, 131; Ent. Wk. Int. ii, 1857, 11); Woolverstone (lib. cit. iii, 1857, 22); larvae and pupae found sparingly round Stowmarket (B & C 1858). Nayland; Copdock at light, and eggs in Bentley Woods (Hkg); on oak-trunks there in mid-May 1925 (Mly). Bramford and Helmingham in 1900 (Sparke); Needham (L); Henham, Sotterley; Flixton and Worlingham.

Recent Suffolk Status: Locally common although scarce in high Suffolk and in the north-east.

Life history: Single-brooded.

Identification: Easily identified on size. Could possibly be confused with Lobster Moth.

Habitat: Mainly Oak woodland.

Recorded in 36 (62%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1858.
Last Recorded in 2026.
