Recent Suffolk Status: A former UK resident species of downland in the south, last seen in the 1960s.

An adult was caught in a moth trap in Lowestoft on 05/05/2026 (A. Wren), the first British record for over 60 years.

Life history: Single-brooded. Overwinters as a larva.

Identification: Similar to Tawny Shears and Bordered Gothic, but has a conspicuous brown hoof mark by the white spot and a whitish square on the outer edge of the forewing.

Habitat: Calcareous grassland.
