Crambus pascuella

(Linnaeus, 1758)1294 / 63.081

Morley's Final Catalogue: An abundant species throughout the county and Britain.

Recent Status: A common species recorded across the county.

Life Style: A single brooded summer flying Grass Moth that comes to light. The larvae feed on grasses at ground level and pupate in a cocoon during spring.

Identification: Crambus pascuella has an indent forewing termen with black spots on the dorsal half. The main longitudinal streak is broad, follows the costa for one third of its length and then gradually narrows before it is interrupted and then almost reaches the sub-terminal line. The dorsal edge of the streak has a slight angle that does not normally constitute a projection. This is in contrast to C. uliginosellus where there is a slight spur. C. uliginosellus also has the main white streak following the costa to half its length and thus narrows more abruptly than it does for C, pascuella. The two species are very similar.

Recorded in 44 (76%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1977.
Last Recorded in 2026.
