Crambus uliginosellus

Zeller, 18501297 / 63.083

Morley's Final Catalogue: Apparently local; noticed in the east at only Aldeburgh saltmarshes where it was scarce in 1892 (Ctw); Lowestoft (Bd); Beccles (Ctw); and in the west at Tuddenham before 1890 (Wrn).

Recent Status: A single recent record on 30/05/2026, at Aldringham (A. Rowlands). This was during a hot spell of weather when many species of migrant moth were being noted in the county, suggesting it may have been a wandering individual from Europe.

Life Style: The species is single brooded flying in summer and coming to light. The larvae feed from silken tubes among mass and feed on certain sedges and grasses.

Identification: Crambus uliginosellus is very similar to C. pascuella. It differs by having the main streak following the costa to half its length and having a distinct but small spur along the dorsal edge of the streak. The streak narrows more abruptly than it does for C. pascuella.
